Councilman John R. ( Jack ) Cooley - District: 5

Councilman Cooley was elected to serve on the Demopolis City Council in 2004.

Councilman Cooley was born in Talladega, Alabama and moved to Demopolis in 1992 as a district sales manager with Alfa Insurance. Mr. Cooley attended Auburn University and graduated with a BS in business from Jacksonville State University. Mr. Cooley graduated from LSU School of Banking. Mr. Cooley and his wife Patsy have 5 children and 12 grandchildren.

Mr. Cooley served as the past president for each of the organizations.

Mr. Cooley serves on several committees for the City of Demopolis. These include the Finance Committee, Public Safety Committee, and the Beautification Committee. Mr. Cooley served as the Chairman for the 2006 Christmas on the River Festival.

He retired from Alfa Insurance in 2002 after 25 years of dedicated service for which he earned 53 awards. Some include the Top Sales Agent, Best District Manager, Low Loss Ratios & Low Expense Ratios, and Low Personnel Turnover.

Councilman Cooley is an active member of First United Methodist Church where he serves as chancel choir, stewardship chairman, President of Methodist Men’s Club, and Church Council.
